GALENA, Kan. — The
proposed Ozark Trail Casino in Cherokee County would have a
35,000-square-foot gambling floor with 30 table games and 900 slot
machines.
Keith Kocher, an official with the Kansas
Lottery, on Tuesday provided those details from the application filed
Monday by limited liability corporation Ozark Trail Gaming.
Kocher said the casino is proposed for the first phase of the project, but there was little information about subsequent phases.
“It appears to me there may be plans for a hotel in a future phase,” Kocher said. “That’s not very firm.”
Employment estimate
Bob Knight, a former Wichita mayor and a
principal with Ozark Trail Gaming, said Tuesday in a phone interview
that the employment level could be between 500 and 600 at startup of
the casino, with more employment added later. He said the group of
investors estimates that the casino would bring in $100 million in its
first full year of operation.
The application states that the casino
would have a total area of 113,000 square feet, with a public area of
47,500 square feet, and a nonpublic area of about 66,000 square feet
for offices, administration and security.
Plans in the application call for a 75-seat, 1,800-square-foot entertainment lounge and bar.
